It’s that time of year again! With family ski holidays already being booked up for the 2016/17 ski season, we have put together 8 tips to ensure your family has the perfect ski holiday next season.

There is nothing better than hitting the slopes, enjoying great food, cosy and comfortable accommodation, and quality family time.

Organising a family holiday, whatever your destination, requires careful planning and thought, and a skiing holiday even more so. It is important to make sure you bring all the right equipment, book a great ski resort, and plan your days so that there is lots of fun for everyone.

Our Top 8 Skiing Tips:

When should you go skiing? Timing is everything!

It’s important to pick the time of year you plan to go on your ski holiday carefully. When should you go skiing? Well, if you choose peak season then remember that this busy time of year attracts many different types of groups of skiers to the slopes, not just other skiing families.

Groups of younger skiers and families often flock to the slopes and resorts at peaks times of year – Christmas, New Year and school holidays.

But if you would rather go at a less busy time, we’d recommend one of the best months to go skiing is in January. The first two weeks of January tend to be a quieter time for most ski resorts, whilst half-terms and the Christmas holidays tend to be more popular amongst family skiers. If you can get away outside of the school holidays, your ski resort will be quieter, the slopes will be clearer, and the ski schools will be less busy.

We offer a selection of high quality catered ski chalets that have been handpicked for their excellent family facilities and for their prime locations close to the resort centres or slopes.

Research your resort and pick a ski holiday that most suits your family

Ideally, you’ll want to find a ski resort that is totally geared towards families, offering chalets that cater to families with young children, resort events and activities that both you and your children can enjoy when you have finished skiing for the day.

Each of our ski resorts has been handpicked by us because of their suitability for children as well as their excellent skiing.

Top Tip: pay attention to how close your chalet or accommodation is from the piste and the centre of the resort – the nearer the better as it means less hassle in the morning, and when you and your family are ready to go you can practically ski straight out of the door!

All our Les Gets, Reberty Village and La Plagne family ski chalets are in prime locations close to the piste and/or resort centres. To make your family ski holidays easier and hassle-free, we offer in-chalet childcare options in all of our ski chalets.

Make a list of everything you and your family needs for your ski holiday

Making a checklist of everything you need well before you go is the best way to ensure you have all the right gear for your children to ensure they are kept safe, warm and dry on the slopes. Pack lots of layers for the children, comfy clothes for indoors any must have toiletries, games, books and other bits and bobs that will keep them entertained.

If you intend to make your skiing holiday an annual event you might want to consider renting, or borrowing equipment from friends. Children tend to grow out of ski clothes very quickly, so sharing children’s ski kit with other skiing friends can be a great move..

If you have a long car journey think of games and ways to keep the children busy beforehand to make it a smooth ride on the day.

Pre-book your ski lessons, ski passes and ski hire before you begin your ski holiday

Most of your ski holidays essentials can easily be pre-booked with us and it saves time, hassle and unwanted surprises once you arrive.

You can book lift passes, lessons and ski/snowboard hire all before you arrive, this saves having to worry about bringing lots of cash and joining long queues on your first day, and means you can get up and out on the piste as soon as possible.

Bring an ‘emergency skiing pack’ with you

Whilst your children may love tackling the slopes, it is good to bring a bag of essentials which will help if your little one suffers the odd tumble while out on the slopes.

Spare gloves and hats, plasters and tissues, as well as some sweets and chocolate are good things to be able to whip out quick smart if needed!

Book up your ski lessons before you go

If your children are new to skiing it is a great idea to spend the first couple of days getting them lessons.  At all of our fantastic resorts we offer different lesson packages with experienced and friendly instructors. We believe that the quicker they learn the more confident they will be, and will soon be enjoying the more challenging slopes with you.

Smaller classes are much more effective so try to ensure you book into a class with a maximum of eight children. They will have more personalised attention and will learn a lot quicker too.

It’s all about catered ski chalets!

It is lovely going out for meals as a family and there is no reason why you can’t enjoy some of the resorts restaurants while on your ski holiday. However, particularly if your children are very young, having your own chef and host to prepare your meals and look after the needs of the children will be invaluable.
