Retaining much of its old Savoyard charm, this quiet sunny village has always appealed to families thanks to its gentle slopes, excellent ski schools and wide array of child-friendly non-skiing activities. Part of the huge Portes du Soleil ski region, and offering links to the fabulous Mont Chery ski area, Les Gets really is the perfect place for a family winter break. But what’s different this season, to keep us going back for more? We’ve pulled together a round-up of the best new additions to the resort that are sure keep the whole family entertained.

For the Kids: Geocaching – A treasure hunt in the snow

Geocaching is fast becoming a world-wide phenomenon, and it’s basically one big treasure hunt! All you need is a hand-held GPS device or a smart phone and a sense of adventure! Geocaches or ‘caches’ are small waterproof boxes that have been hidden throughout the ski area in Les Gets and by downloading the official Geocaching app you can track them down. Once you’ve found one, sign the logbook to prove you were there and you might even find an array of trinkets that people before you have left to swap…but be sure to leave a little souvenir in its place for the next person to find!

Available on Android, IOS and Windows.

For the Mums: Le Bacchus, “the place to be”!

Part of the Crychar Hotel and Spa, this new bar situated on the pistes above the village is the place to be this winter. With its cosy atmosphere and wide selection of food and drink options, this wine bar & tea room is sure to satisfy any craving. Traditional teas, old-fashioned hot chocolate and a regularly renewed wine list make up the majority of the bar’s offering; and with an assortment of cured meats and cheeses also available, this is a perfect place to stop-off for a glass of Vin Chaud whilst the children are at ski school.

For the Dads: Pocket Wi-Fi – Stay Connected

We all know how important it is to be able to stay in touch with everyone back home whilst we are away, and this year Les Gets is offering visitors pocket Wi-Fi rental allowing them to stay connected wherever they are.

As the first ski resort to offer this service, you can now stay connected both on the slopes and in the villages, and with free Wi-Fi offered in all Ski Famille chalets as well, you’ll pretty much have it covered! Visitors can enjoy unlimited 3G or 4G connection on up to 10 devices for just €49 per week.

For the whole family: Le Chalet du Chocolat – Chocolate Heaven

For the chocolate lovers amongst us, Le Chalet du Chocolat is a chocolate bar/ tea room where visitors can sample top quality chocolate and coffee products from some of the world’s top producers. Designed around three distinct areas Le Chalet du Chocolat comprises of a cosy alpine tea room; a shop selling delicious handmade goodies, and, new this year, a workshop area where children and families can indulge in delicious chocolate and patisserie workshops.

These workshops provide an outlet for a creative family experience from which everyone returns home with their own delicious creation…we’re sold! Workshops last for 1 and a half hours and prices start at €15 per person.
