Christmas in Les Gets
The resort of Les Gets really comes into its own at Christmas. Steeped in traditional Savoyard charm, the picturesque Alpine village is adorned with festive lights; everyone really pulls out the stops to create a truly magical environment. Spend your holiday exploring the vast ski area by day, before cosying up and enjoying the seasonal atmosphere in the evenings.
Little known to many, Father Christmas actually lives in Les Gets. In the lead up to his busiest time of year, he opens the doors of his grotto allowing children and their parents to discover his secrets. Visit the Enchanted Forest where Father Christmas and his Elves work hard all year making toys and presents ready for the big day. Throughout Christmas week you can take a guided tour of his home and workshop.
Christmas in La Plagne
Christmas in La Plagne involves an array of Christmas concerts, festive markets and live music taking place throughout the town. When the Christmas lights switch on at the beginning of December the whole town is awash with colour for the festive period. You can always be sure of a glass of Vin Chaud, a carol and maybe a firework or two. Christmas Eve is traditionally marked with a carol concert outside the Tourist Office in Plagne Centre along with a visit from Father Christmas before he sets off to begin his work on the most magical night of the year. Christmas Mass services are also held all evening in the Church in the centre of the town. On Christmas day itself, the ski lifts are open as normal meaning you can spend the morning working up an appetite before heading back to the chalet for gift giving, family time, and a lavish traditional Christmas dinner with all the trimmings.
Christmas in the Three Valleys
The traditional style villages of Reberty 2000 and Les Bruyeres offer a restful and picturesque retreat from bustling Les Menuires, yet the centre is easily accessible by both bus and the piste, meaning you can make the most of the Christmas festivities that take place. Christmas in Les Menuires is a truly magical experience with children’s shows and entertainment, carol concerts, and Christmas trees adorned with tinsel lining the village streets.
There is also a visit from Père Noël on Christmas Eve, guaranteeing the perfect start to your Christmas in the Alps! In addition to this true alpine classic, the torchlight descent takes place on Christmas Eve each year. Organised by the French ski school, instructors along with Santa and his elves ski down the piste with flaming torches in hand creating a line of fire that weaves into town. This is followed by a spectacular firework display and complimentary Vin Chaud, making it an evening to remember for all the family.
